S1M's 2020 Favorites

2020 has been a trying year for all of us. Between sickness and health, murder hornets, and lets not even talk about politics. While under quarantine, hopefully everyone has but, here at S1M, I’m nearly positive our music never shut off. Obviously with so many weddings that were postponed all we could do was enjoy time with family and enjoy music. And that we certainly did. We decided we should share our top 5 favorite tracks of this year. As a DJ and music connoisseur, selecting 5 is quite a challenge. So here goes.

WhatsLoveGotToDoWithIt

Number 5

Obviously this is a remake but having Tina Turner mixed with Kygo’s flair for a poppy uplifting tone, is the formula for a great track. Complete with the “Snap your fingers vibe”, vocal chops on Tina’s vocals and dance chords, this song always gets me in a good mood.

HoldYouTonight

Number 4

Ok, seriously, Chris Lane’s vocals with Griffyn’s production blurs the lines between genres. I have listened to this song so many times this year if it were a cassette or CD it would probably not play anymore. At its core, this song is all about wanting to be with their love. However the best, absolute best line of this song…

I haven’t stopped thinking about last night all day

As a bonus track — they were nice enough to make us an acoustic version. So number 4.1

BothStillYoung

Number 3

Continuing the trend of Country merged with EDM pop, probably my favorite country artist Keith Urban worked with Dzeko to give us a hopeful dance love song about growing old with the person we love. Overall, what we all wish to have. The concept of keeping that new love feeling after being together for years is the theme of the song and it delivers perfectly.

HereToStay

Number 2

Conro has never let me down and this song is certainly no exception. The lyrics are amazing but I think the structure and instrumentation is what solidifies this track in this list. Here to Stay is a shorter track than most now-a-days but I believe that was the intent. It makes it point and leaves you wanting more. Would certainly be a great Ceremony Song for a wedding or even a Couples Dance song.

ThousandFaces

Number 1

Don Diablo has astounded me this year. But of all of the music i’ve consumed this year, there is no question that this one is the best of 2020. As life goes, we lose people on our journey though. Thousand Faces is a song Don released after his dad passed away. The notion pf wanting to make your parents proud of you is sometime that pulls on all of our heartstrings. Weirdly, this track has an uplifting vibe in-spite of its heavy theme.
