Peter and Taylor - Stand by Me

Peter and Taylor

The Scene

New Orleans Wedding Ceremony.JPG

This ridiculously fun couple had their wedding at The Riverview Room. At this this particular venue, the ceremonies (weather permitting) are outside on the rooftop overlooking the NOLA French Quarter. Of course you could ever so faintly hear the hustle of the streets below, but then again, does it matter? That’s partly the charm of this great city. The reception was in the primary room, with oversized windows allowing you see the vastness of the mighty Mississippi River. If you can’t tell, I have a bias opinion of NOLA.

The Ceremony

Ok, so, the officiant was awesome. He certainly did a great job engaging with Peter & Taylor and their 200+ guests. The Parents of the bride and groom made their way to into the ceremony to Trumpet Voluntary by The Piano Brothers. Its always great to have people in your corner, and the wedding party is just that, people in your corner and with 14 people per side in their wedding party, Peter and Taylor had people in their corner. The bridal party proceeded down the isle to Someone You Loved by The Piano Guys. Lastly, our gorgeous Taylor was escorted down the isle to by another Piano Guys favorite A Thousand Years. After this couple pledged their lives together and we’re pronounced husband and wife, they celebrated while exiting the ceremony area to Marry You by Bruno Mars.

The Reception

As typical, glasses are being filled and trays are being passed as we played some ‘Naturally N’awlins’ music to set the vibe. I.E. Louis Armstrong, Kermit Ruffins etc. The reception area was wide open, beautiful and received a touch of pink accent colors thanks to some uplighting. The dance floor awaited for Peter and Taylor with the glow of a personalized monogram.

After the signing of the papers and a legendary photo session with Theresa Elizabeth Photo (I’ll drop some photos below) our bride and groom were announced into their first dance. Peter and Taylor selected Stand By Me by Ben E. King, which seemed to be quite fitting for them. Taylor danced with her father to a great track from Ol’ Blue Eyes himself; They Way You Look Tonight - Frank Sinatra. Peter then danced with his two sisters to I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack. Lastly, to kick the party off on the right foot, Taylor had the Bridal Party dance to We Are Family by Sister Sledge. Having a bridal party dance was refreshing to see as it is rarely seen these days.

As a way to control the energy in the room we start easy and familiar with songs such as ‘Boogie Shoes’, ‘Brick House’ and ‘Superstition’. With Part of the family having a Croatian background, some of that style was mixed in also. Different from typical, but interesting, the Croatian music had the guests dancing just the same. Of course there were a few line dancing type tracks mixed in, such as the ‘Cupid Shuffle’.

When it came time for the Bouquet toss Taylor chose of of my favorites, Sexy and I Know it. Peter had all his single guys to the dance floor for the Garter Toss to Pour Some Sugar on Me.

Even the employees of the venue were dancing.

After those 2 events is typically when the party gets going…. and this wedding was definitely not the exception. With this group though, we did a lot of genre hoping. Everyone loved it but it does present some challenges in mixing. But all in all, as long as we had people on the floor, they could care less about our song to song mixing. Early on, Taylor mentioned to me, if people wanted to speak with her, they would have to go meet her on the dance floor, and thats exactly what she did. It’s always a great night when the bride spends her evening on the floor. (Every wedding DJs dream). Just to give you an idea of the music played, ‘Choppa Style’, ‘Tennessee Whiskey’, ‘Hot in Here’, ‘This is What You Came For’, ‘Back That Thang Up’, ‘Turn Down For What’, ‘No Hands’, ‘Sexyback’, ‘Something Just Like This’…… to name a few. This wedding celebration was incredible. The energy that they put onto the dance floor isn’t something seen very often, and we are forever grateful.

A Huge Thank You to Mandy at The RiverView Room for taking care of us throughout the ceremony and the night. And of course a major Thank You to Theresa Elizabeth Photography for being so easy to work with and for the AMAZING photos (and allowing us to host them here!)

Thank You Peter and Taylor for trusting us with your special day. We truly cannot thank you enough. -Best Wishes
